31 students. 19 PR pros. 18 two-minute speed networking sessions.
Tuesday’s “Mentor Hub Mixer” at Haworth | Interface was more than your average mentor experience.
So what was so different? WMPRSA has extended mentoring opportunities to students and professionals in the past, matching them based on experience and interests. But this year, we wanted to maximize the networking possibilities and let students meet a diverse group of professionals in one place. As students participated in the speed networking sessions, they noted which professionals inspired them the most. These recommendations will help the committee match students and professionals in the most relevant and beneficial way possible.
Students from Ferris State University and Grand Valley State University inquired about work experience, finding internships, insight into different areas of PR, and so much more. Their enthusiasm, curiosity and energy was infectious. I left the event feeling inspired and proud to be part of the public relations community here in West Michigan.
Kudos to Jenny Luth, Clark Communications, for her great ideas to renovate this program.
Many thanks to everyone who attended and all the professionals who have agreed to mentor a student. You’re not just making a different in a student’s life, but also an investment in the future of public relations.
Professionals and students will be matched and notified early next month.
